Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2023-12-29T11:34Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2023-12-29T11:34:00-IPS-001 (version 2)
Quality of ICME Signature: 1 (lacks some signatures)
Note: This arrival is primarily characterized by amplification in magnetic field components, with B_total increasing from ~5 nT to ~10 nT starting around 2023-12-29T11:34Z. This is accompanied by a small increase in speed from ~360 km/s to ~390 km/s. The density data between DSCOVR and ACE has some discrepancies and data gaps. Prior to this arrival, there were several bumps in density around 2023-12-28T22:45Z, 2023-12-29T02:50Z, and 2023-12-29T08:45Z, possibly due to the preceding CME arrival. Following a data gap in ACE from 2023-12-28T22:11Z to 2023-12-29T13:30Z, the density was increasing. A possible flux rope signature can be seen based on rotations observed in the magnetic field components, particularly B_y. B_total reached a maximum of 11nT around 2023-12-29T21:42Z as a result.
